They said they’ve done food journals for another trainer I know and based on what they write down it seems they aren’t eating nearly enough. Like sub 1k calories a day. Yet, quite overweight. I just don’t see this being a serious possibility that they can eat 600-800 calories a day and maintain such a high body fat percentage. In obese range.So my question is, how likely is it for this to be the case? I have naturally large biceps and the last thing I want to do is grow them. But I do want a more defined back. Or are stubborn? As coaches I get that we’re here to “motivate” and provide support, but there are those clients who don’t take it as seriously as they portray themselves to and then you feel frustrated like you’re wasting your time.33:12 - How to narrow your niche to an audience that you know will put in the work and are serious about it44:07 - How much time should pass with no changes in weight for you to be able to say you hit a plateau? You mentioned on a previous podcast that your drops of weight are sometimes very small and even hard to notice - my weight has been dropping very slow (0.2-0.4kg/week). I’ve been doing a 5 days deficit/2 day refeed split. Is it maybe that I go too high in calories on refeed days, even if my weekly deficit is gradually lowering?Also, if there is a sudden spike (like + 2kg) in the middle of the week, do you count it in the average, even though it stands out that much and was probably retention?51:42 -I have a client who has been under eating for years but in a surplus/maintenance for a year now and is at about her “set point” weight. Andy is a tenured Professor in the Center for Sport Performance at CSU Fullerton. He was born and raised in Rochester, WA and is a die-hard Seahawks, Huskies, & Mariner fan. As a youth, Andy played every sport at his disposal, excelling at Football, Basketball, Baseball, and Track & Field. While not playing, he worked at grocery stores, gas stations, hay fields, blueberry farms, and in the road construction business. It was during this time he discovered Strength & Conditioning.He now focuses his attention on teaching classes (Sports Nutrition, Exercise Physiology, Designing Exercise Programs, Applied Strength and Conditioning, Athlete Assessment and Measurement, etc.) and running the BMEP lab (which studies the acute responses and chronic adaptations of human skeletal muscle in response to high force/velocity/power and fatiguing exercise from the whole body, down to the individual muscle fiber and even into the individual DNA. The team does this by taking muscle biopsies from non-athletes and elite athletes from different backgrounds (e.g. normal college student, MMA fighter, Boxer, Weightlifter, etc.) and use highly sophisticated laboratory techniques and equipment to address questions about single fiber "type", size, function, protein quantity, diameter, mitochondria, and myonuclear function.
